A recent study showed that insulin sensitivity improved by 40% when the test subjects drank a mixture of vinegar and water prior to eating a high-carbohydrate meal. Apples make a great snack. I prefer golden delicious myself, although I recently tried an Empire and it was maybe the best apple I have ever eaten. That and a piece of string cheese make a good combination. Try cutting your apple in half and make two snacks out of it.

For diabetics, bread is a sure fire way to raise that blood sugar. Most breads are 20 to 30 carbs a slice, or even more, depending on the size of the loaf. I personally rarely eat wheat products and eat very few grain products at all.
