How can Type 2 Diabetes be prevented?
Preventing type 2 diabetes is a lot easier than reversing it once you have this condition. Here are a few good tips to follow to help you prevent type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes. And if you have already been diagnosed with diabetes, these are pretty good tips to follow to help you reverse that course.
- Maintain a normal weight for your age, height, and gender.
- Exercise on a regular basis. At a minimum, that is five times per week for at least 30 minutes a session. Even better is every day for an hour.
- Follow a proper diet with good nutrition. This does not mean following the common diet of western society.
- Watch your cholesterol and blood pressure levels and work to keep them at normal levels.
- Minimize or eliminate your use of salt, caffeine, processed grains, processed sugars, trans-fats, aspartame, and alcohol.
- Reduce the amount of food that you eat at meals, particularly foods high in saturated fat or carbohydrates.
- Eat more fruits and non-starchy vegetables, especially as snacks.
