Take Action with Your Diabetes or Face These Consequences

At least 80 million people (in just the U.S.) are suffering from type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes and millions are doing little or nothing about it. Here are a few of the things that you can look forward to if you ignore these conditions.

  • Medical expenditures for diabetics are approximately 2.3 times higher than those without diabetes.
  • The risk of death for diabetics is twice that for non-diabetics of a similar age.
  • Diabetics have heart disease death rates two to four times higher than non-diabetics.
  • Diabetics have two to four times higher risk for stroke than non-diabetics.
  • 75% of reported diabetics have elevated blood pressure or use prescription medicine for hypertension.
  • For adults ages 20-74, diabetes is the leading cause of new cases of blindness.
  • The leading cause of kidney failure is diabetes.
  • An estimated 60-70% of diabetics suffer from nerve system damage.
  • An estimated 60% of non-traumatic lower limb amputations occur in diabetics.
  • Diabetics are much more likely to suffer from periodontal (gum) disease.
  • Diabetics are more susceptible to many illnesses and often have worse prognoses.
  • Diabetics over 60 years of age are two to three times more likely to have limited mobility than non-diabetics in their age group.

If the above statistics don’t get you motivated to take action and start managing your diabetes, then God help you!
